A new museum opens in Cologne.
The museum is called Museum Selma.
The museum will open in 2029.
There is still a lot of work to do before then.

Find out on this page:

  • How far along is the museum?
  • What has been done?
  • What still needs to be done?
  • When can the museum open?
In this black and white graphic you can see a little girl hanging up a lifebuoy. To the left of the lifebuoy are three pictures. Two of them show angular and round contours. The last one on the far left shows the outline of a vessel.

The museum is about migration.
This means that a person leaves their home country.
And moves to a new country.
People who have experienced this are called migrants.
Many people have left their home country.
And now live in another country.
That is normal.
Even in Germany.

In the centre of the black and white graphic you can see a cardboard box with the inscription ‘DOMiD’. Inside the box are various things sticking out of the top, such as a camera and a notepad. The box has legs that are in motion.

Migrants are part of the history of Germany.
The museum is about the stories of migrants.
And the stories of their families.
It is also about the experiences of migrants.
The stories are told by the people themselves.
That's why the museum is something special.
Because there is nothing like it yet.

The black and white graphic shows two women sitting next to each other on a bench. Both are holding leaves of different sizes in their hands.

The museum is run by DOMiD.
DOMiD has been around for many years.
DOMiD was founded by migrants.
Because they want to tell their story.
DOMiD wants to tell many people about migration.
And about the stories of migrants.
And about the memories of migrants.
And about the experiences of migrants.
That's why the Museum Selma is coming soon.

The graphic shows the DOMiD logo in black and white.

The Museum Selma shows:
What did people experience?
What has migration changed in Germany?
For example, in our life together.
And in our everyday lives.

There is a lot to experience in the museum.
And lots of things to see.
For example:

  • Objects
  • Photos
  • Interviews
  • Videos

These Objects were collected by DOMiD.

The museum is for everyone.
All people should take part.
And tell their story.
That's called participation.

Are you looking forward to the Museum Selma?
